What is Love?

I’m sure you have all been to a wedding or watched A Walk to Remember where 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 is used in the vows

Love is patient. Love is kind. Love does not envy. Love does not boast. Love is not proud. Love does not dishonor others. Love is not self-seeking, Love is not easily angered. Love keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. Love always protects. Love always trusts. Love always hopes. Love always perseveres. Love never fails.

In 1 John 4:7-8 it says, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”

GOD IS LOVE

What does this mean? God is the very essence of the word Love.

Let’s replace the word love with God in that verse.

GOD is patient, GOD is kind: he will not force a relationship with you, he waits on you.

GOD does not dishonor others.

GOD is not easily angered: Psalm 103:8 He is slow to anger

GOD keeps no record of wrongs: Micah 7:19 He tosses our sins into the depths of the ocean.

GOD always protects. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 “the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.”

GOD always perseveres.

GOD never fails. Hebrews 13:5 “…for God has said, I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.

We can show love to others; through kind words, smiling, random acts of kindness, responding nicely when harsh words are said to you.  Is this not how we show God to others?

Let us go out into the world, and offer to randomly pray for someone, help them pick up groceries if the drop them, and listen to their story.
